One of the most hotly anticipated paintball sniper releases of 2008, the DM8 has once again seen the team from DYE raise the bar for high end paintball guns. The new addition to the DM series has included a slew of refinements to ensure their flagship rifle maintains its position as one of the lightest, fastest and most accurate paintball guns in the world.

The somewhat controversial removal of eyeplates from the design seems to have paid dividends, with the new ‘Eye-Pipe Anti-Chop sensing system’ providing some astounding results when we gave this unit a workout. This combined with the new Hyper3 regulator has allowed the design team to further reduce the size of what was already an extremely compact unit.

The updated grip frame took us a little while to get used to the unique hourglass shape but this combined with the Ultralite Sticky3 rubber proved to be one of the most comfortable we’ve ever used over the course of the day.

The adjustable roller bearing trigger design and low operating pressure of this unit also ensured a staggering consistency of aim at all distances. Other modifications include an improved fuse bolt and internal LPR.

Overall, this marker is nothing short of a dream to use - Lightweight, accurate, reliable and lightning fast. You do pay for the privelige of using the DM8 [the best deal we've found is here], but as they say - you get what you pay for.

The 14″ barrel looks quite good with “tippmann” written in grey writing,  and it actually matches the words tippmann 98 custom on your paintball marker. Amazon would probably be the cheapest stockist, but you might get better service with Paintball-online. If you have a tippmann 98 custom marker and are still using the standard barrel, this has to be the first thing you upgrade. It’s a no brainer. In multiples of 10 it will improve your distance, accuracy, and look of your tippman 98 custom marker. Brilliant value for money really. 

   
Maybe I will say that the paintballs has a pretty tight fit with this barrel, but it just performs really well. We haven’t heard of anyone experiencing any trouble with this product. Looks to me like another quality product from TIPPMANN!!!! (we like tippmann, just cause they are good. simple)

It’s extremely reliable (mine has the ak package and it looks pretty cool).

I would have to say that compared to the A5 the  Tippmann 98 Pro Custom is beginning to look a little dated.

But who cares…the A5 is infamous for its poor cyclone feed systems, which gives nightmares to all the crew at my local woodbsall field. but where i play all day on site with my 98 all i ever see is A5 owners trying to fix there cyclone feed systems!

Despite looks, the Tippmann 98 Pro Custom is one hell of a good marker! I have fiends who have had theirs for 3 years and it has never jammed.

For the best performance the first thing you should do is upgrade to a 14″ pathfinder barrell and a Tippmann e-trigger. Anti chop technology will also ensure you don’t break your balls inside the gun! If you follow this advice, you’re accuracy will rival the best marksmen.

Also, at the end of the day it’s a Tippmann meaning you will alwyas get great warranty and good customer service. I have never had any problems.

The Tippmann 98 Pro Custom does it have its shortfalls…but for the money it is the best buy. It can get a little heavy, but are you a man or a mouse?
